JS is OFF! COVENTRY UNITED | A Final Farewell From Josh O'Grady

A Final Farewell From Josh O'Grady

Date: 13 November 2017 at 21:40 by Liam Cook

You didn't think he was leaving without saying goodbye did you?

Club legend Josh O'Grady has written a farewell message to the fans of Coventry United as he leaves for Warwick.

"I'll always remember the week I joined Coventry United from Daventry. There was an article in the Dav Express. confounded by the ''baffling decision' for me and Martin Hutchcox to drop 3 leagues to join, at the time, an 'unknown club'. What they didn't know was the potential both me and Hutch knew the club had, and its ambition to rise up the leagues and become one of the biggest non-league clubs in the area. We were both attracted to being a big part of this project.

We joined in November 2014 with the club lying 3rd/4th in Division 2. Josh Blake and Jamie Coleman followed us shortly after, as the team went on to being undefeated the rest of the season, comfortably winning the league title along with cup success. With back to back promotions we went into Division 1, hoping for a 3rd successive league title. However, as other big clubs such as Bromsgrove and Hinkley had found out, this was not the easiest of leagues to get out of at the first attempt. One of my most memorable games was early on that season when we went to supposed league favourites Hinckley away and beat them 4-0. This was the catalyst in giving us the confidence to go on and complete an unprecedented 3rd title in only the clubs 3rd year in existence. The team spirit and togetherness we had that year is what I believe was the main reason behind the success we had.

Unfortunately as is the case at many clubs players left and new faces came in, and I think everyone at the club was disappointed with the respectable mid-table finish the following season in our first crack at the Premier Division. This year however, the team is stronger, and I'm sure it will go on to challenge for the league title in the remainder of the season.

It has been a really difficult decision for me to leave the club, one I have been mulling over for a number of weeks, but I believe the time is right for me to move on. I am proud of the time I have spent at Coventry United. I've seen the club grow from playing at the Higgs infront of 50 people, to playing at a ground with the stature of the Butts Park Arena infront of over 200. I have made many friends along the way and I would like say a big thank you to each one of the loyal fans who turn up week in week out. It has been a pleasure to get to know many of you off the field and I'm sure I'll see you in the stands at a Cov game in the future. I would also like to say a big thank you to the men behind the scenes, Jason Kay, Jason Timms, Marcus, Schoey and most recently Peter Reynolds. As long as they are a part of the club, I know it will go on to grow, be a big success and the aim of being a league club wont be to far away.

Good-bye for now,

Josh O'Grady
