Ladies Finish 4th In WPL With Lewes VictoryDate: 20 May 2018 at 18:52 by Liam
Coventry United Ladies ended the FA Womens' Premier League Southern Division season in style, with a late winner from Lois Jefferies completing a 2-1 turn around win over Lewes.
A victory for either side at the Trevor Brown Ground (Home of Boldmere St. Michaels FC) would confirm a fourth place league position for the winner, and things got off to a great start for the visitors, as a low cross from Rebecca Carter was tapped over the line by Avilla Bergin. Try as they may, United's attempts to find an equaliser before the break were either ended by a strong Lewes back line, or saved by goalie Faye Baker.
But United's second half resilience payed off with half an hour to play. Jade Brook was able to beat Baker, setting up a thrilling finale. Substitute Lois Jefferies had the final word in added time, as the young attacker's looping effort flew just out of reach of Baker into the net, sparking jubilant celebrations from the Red and Green Girls.
The victory ensures the final WPL Southern Division table sees United sit in fourth place, behind Charlton C&K Basildon and Crystal Palace.
