JS is OFF! COVENTRY UNITED | Introduction

Introduction

Welcome to YOUR supporters club.  We came to life in June 2015 when the now Club Chairman, Peter Reynolds brought together a group of interested supporters who, just a few hours later cheered as the club was declared 'open!'. The longer term aim of the owners was for the club to become Supporter owned and already 10% of the club is owned by members. The Football Club recognises the importance of giving supporters a voice in the running of their football club, and once the club is fully financially viable, the fans will be afforded greater ownership.

Introduction and objectives

We support our club on and off the pitch - building a strong supporter base, raising funds to support our teams and providing a great day out for all. Your membership payment will not benefit any one individual at the club but will always go towards bringing about more success for our Men’s, Ladies and Junior teams. Our long-term aim is to be a supporter owned club and the more members we have the sooner that becomes a reality. Be part of this exciting opportunity and have your say in how the club should progress: there has never been a better time to join! Representatives of the Supporters Club participate in Board Meetings, drive fund-raising activity, conduct match-day operations and ensure fans have a say in the future of the club.

Currently we have in nearly 200 members; including one Honorary Life Member and 40 Founder Members.  Further Honorary Life Membership will be conferred in the future on the basis of service to the club.  We have a number of overseas members including ex-pat residents of the USA, Hong Kong and Spain. The Supporters Club operates within a clearly defined Constitution and to an agreed set of Objectives which, along with other essential information, will be accessible here in the near future.  We were also party to, and operate within the Guiding Principles issued by the Football Club.

The Supporters’ Club is run by an elected committee, all of whom are volunteers, and whilst this is a non-profit making organisation we do operate in a profitable way with all profits being ploughed back into the Football Club.

Membership, which is open to all supporters, costs just £25.00 for a full calendar year from the date of joining, and a one-off cost of only £5.00 for children gives them membership until their 18th birthday.

Supporter ownership of Coventry United

Coventry United, one day, will be a fan-owned club. It is the intention of the Directors to transfer the football club shareholding to it's supporters club in stages, with the first 10% now owned by members. That means by becoming a member of the Supporters Club you can literally boast that 'I own my club'! The Board want the club to thrive and be a fans asset with no one individual exercising control. Early signs are good as representatives of the supporters club attend Board Meetings and play a full part in decision making.

A declaration was made at the end of the 2016-17 that the supporters club had acquired a 10% shareholding in the football club to reward them for their great efforts raising funds and supporting the operation and growth of the football club in many ways. This is only the beginning. Further transfers will depend on sufficient growth in membership numbers and the success of their fund-raising activities.

In order to become a ‘co-owner’, you will have to be a current paid up adult member of the Supporters Club. You will cease to be a co-owner if your membership lapses. Although shares will have no monetary value, the combined holding of the Supporters Club will carry voting rights at the boardroom table relative to the proportion owned. The Supporters Club sends two representatives to each board meeting.
