Season 16/17 and Looking Ahead

It's been another great season on and off the pitch for the Red and Greens. Off the pitch, we have been busy reaching out to the community of Coventry. With the exciting news of our move to Butts Park Arena we intend to use the new season to place ourselves at the heart of community activity within the City. Our new CV1 postcode not only gives us city centre football, but also gives us the perfect location to galvanise the community around us.

We are already on the trail to find new community groups for the coming season to extend our football family further. We recognise that there is far more to sport than just competing in the game. We take our local community responsibility extremely seriously and hope you will join us in further initiatives that will help to place the club in the heart of Coventry.

Reflecting on 16/17 we began reaching out to community groups. 2 highlights of the season saw the start of partnership working between Coventry United and 2 local organisations that work wonders in Coventry to provide better opportunities to individuals.

Coventry Life Path Trust

Life Path Trust support people with Learning Disabilities in Coventry and Warwickshire to live life to the full. They do some fantastic work throughout the City tailoring support services to enable individuals to feel values and to achieve their dreams. The trust focuses on individuals living independent lives, full of opportunity and choices.

This was part of the reason why we got in touch with them during last season to invite them as special guests to a match. Support workers joined service users and their families for a great occasion that we enjoyed by all. It was great to see our friends from the trust enjoying the match.

Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre

The Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre exists to welcome and meet the needs of refugees and migrants to help them settle in Coventry, to support their integration, and to encourage them to contribute to the life of the city. The work they do at the centre attracted the Bishop of Canterbury for a special visit when he recorded his New Year's message this year calling for peace, reconciliation and offering welcome to those in need.

At Coventry United we welcomed a party of Syrian refugees from the centre to their first local football match. They enjoyed their visit so much so that they returned to watch our derby victory against Coventry Sphinx, bringing their drum to help create a great atmosphere. They are quickly becoming our lucky mascots as they have watched us win both matches that they have attended.

To support the centre further, representatives from the Supporters Club attended their family event at Sidney Stringer school. We are organising a community event in partnership with CRMC soon.
